Something interesting happened on our travels from Norfolk to Yorktown, VA. We were going along slowly on the inside channel, gawking at all the huge battleships. Literally, there were several miles of ships all lined up! It was intimidating, yet made you proud to be an American with the strongest and most powerful Naval Force in the world! It truly is an amazing display of power and strength.
Suddenly, we heard on the radio something that went like this: Securite, Securite, Securite, This is the US Navy Marine Patrol boat...for your safety as well as ours, you are to remain at least 500 yards away from the US submarine which is now crossing the channel to continue out to sea. We looked around and realized they were talking to us! It is hard to tell on the water exactly how far away you are from another ship and Karl was in the middle of the channel. They quickly approached us and told us under no circumstances that we were to cross over the bow of the submarine. It was hard to even see the submarine, but I did locate it with the binoculars. Karl got on the radio to ask where he should be, they told us to go outside the channel and stay clear by 500 yards! They ran along side of us and gave us an escort, complete with flashing lights to clear us out of the way! As Karl was heading towards the outside channel marker as instructed, he told me to take a picture, better yet a video! I got a few quick pictures, but I thought they might arrest us! That was our excitement for the day!

We traveled about 40 miles to Yorktown, VA. and stayed at Riverwalk Landing Marina. It was located next to the downtown area. We met up with some Looper friends, Jackie and Jim, and decided to take an Uber to Williamsburg, which was about 20 miles away. We did not want to miss an opportunity to visit this historic colonial town, founded in the 1700's and has many of the original buildings, including the governor's palace. We got to step back in time and see cobblers, blacksmiths and silvermakers busy crafting their wares in colonial costumes. We even sat in on a trial in the courthouse, where the visitors were able to participate in the jury and act out different roles. We watched a re-enactment of George Washington making a speech! It was a fun afternoon.

We ended the afternoon in an old pub, that was said to be haunted upstairs!
