Surf City, NC and a Close Call Hitting Bottom!

4/17
So many houses with docks along the ICW
We traveled 51 miles on the ICW to Surf City, NC to our destination of Topsail Marina.  We caught up with some friends, Joe and Barbara on Balahula and Jackie and Jim on Dona Pacem.  We traveled along with them to Topsail Marina.  The large houses along the waterway were gorgeous, some even eye-popping gorgeous!

When Karl made the turn into the channel to the marina, we felt a thump, thump! We hit bottom, Karl immediately put the engines in neutral until we drifted off, then kept going to our slip.  Needless to say, we were rattled, because hitting the bottom can bend the props, which eventually happens to everyone, us included.  Boaters that say they have never hit bottom are either not telling the truth or have never left the dock!  Karl called a diver to come out to look at the props, but on second thought decided he would dive under to take a look.  He put on his fins, mask and snorkel and went under the boat.  The water was murky, but fortunately the props looked okay, no damage.  Big relief!  That evening we enjoyed visiting with our new friends on board Balahula for docktails.
